I am a blue green girl. Not pink. I have always fought against that color as my own act of rebellion of social norms. So, this was my jump in (like hold your nose and jump, not just a toe dipping) and do something that makes you uncomfortable. Then I thought of my niece, Caroline. She embodies just enough girlie girl, kickass on the soccer field, silliness, and brilliance that absolutely nothing stands in her way. Inspired me.

If you have participated in one of my Create Date Workshops, you know that sometime during the creative process you hate it!! Then you step back and look at it differently or see a tool, word, or color that transforms it to something beautiful. So many parallels to life.....

This was going to be a Christmas piece, but became a mantra for me instead. At the time I made this, I truly felt like my body was on a separate journey from me. Sometimes we have to start with where we are. Then we have to listen really carefully.... Changing the messages you say to yourself are empowering when you feel powerless.

Trying something new is so easy with mixed media! This was my first time using silk screens. What a wonderful way to create details and play with color and pattern! This was inspired by my friend, Anne. Sometimes music must be torn out of books and colored! She is beautiful music.

Art is transformative- for the artist and the piece. My favorite part of the mixed media process is how the end result is nothing like where you started. Kinda resembles life, don't you think? Besides, who doesn't love a good before and after?!
